Beavers on Tweed
Beavers on Tweed is a community organisation supporting the return of beavers to the River Tweed and its tributaries (the Tweed catchment) in ways that benefit nature, people, and long-term climate resilience.
We work to support informed, well-managed beaver restoration shaped by local knowledge, evidence, and constructive engagement.
Why this matters
Beavers are widely recognised as a keystone species. By creating wetlands and altering water flows, they can boost biodiversity, influence flood and drought dynamics, improve water quality, and strengthen ecosystems in the face of climate change.
Across Scotland, carefully managed beaver restoration has shown both what is possible when nature is given space to recover, and why thoughtful planning and management matter. We believe the Tweed catchment has an important role to play in that story, and that local communities should be part of shaping how it unfolds.
What we do
We work to:
- Support evidence-based beaver restoration in the Tweed catchment
- Share clear, balanced information about benefits, challenges, and management
- Engage constructively with land managers, communities, and decision-makers
- Build local understanding of nature-based approaches to resilience
Our approach is practical, collaborative, and grounded in local knowledge.
